Baird ISD Military Family Support

At Baird ISD, we welcome military families. We are working toward earning our Purple Star School designation to better support children of service members.

We want to support you through the challenges of deployment, relocation, and learning life in a new area. If you are part of a military family who has been transferred to Dyess AFB, and you are looking for a small-school environment for your children, we’re here to support you. Any parent or guardian who is an active-duty member of the United States Armed Forces or Reserve Armed Forces may enroll children in Baird ISD.

Baird ISD is a small school with lots of opportunities. Our staff genuinely cares for the students, and they have encouraged our students  to excel in both the classroom and in all the extra-curricular activities. We have many extra-curricular activities available for our students including UIL Academics, Band, Athletics, FFA, Stock Shows, One-Act Play, National Honor Society, and e-sports. It is easy to join one or more of these activities by just signing up for them. Our band has won sweepstakes 5 years in a row and advanced to the state marching tournament 3 times in the last 5 years. Our students at both campuses have experienced much success. In 2025, the HS sent six students to the state tournament, and they brought home eight medals! Most of our athletics programs advanced into the playoffs and regional competitions last year.

We also know that moving from one place to another frequently can sometimes result in gaps in knowledge, and we are here to help!  Our secondary teachers are available after school or during activity period for tutoring. The elementary has a tutoring period from 3:00-3:45 each day for students who need extra assistance.

When you are ready to register your child, please contact the Military Liaison for the campus in which you would like to enroll your children. The campus military liaison will assist you with the registration process, notify the staff so they are prepared to support you and your child, and ensure that your child has a peer who will help him/her to have a successful transition into Baird ISD. Our PEIMS coordinator will help coordinate records transfer from the previous school.

  • Baird Elementary is a Pre-K Three through 5th grade campus, which is home to approximate 120 students in Baird. We also have a partnership with the Day Nursery of Abilene for Pre-K Three classes.

  • Baird High School is home to approximately 150 students in grades six through twelve.
