Wtih the passage of HB 1842 in 2015, the 84th Texas Legislature provided public school districts the opportunity to become Districts of Innovation (DOIs). To qualify, an eligible school district must adopt a five-year innovation plan according to the Texas Education Code.
Baird ISD is taking advantage of the provisions of House Bill 1842 to gain greater local control over specific operational areas. Because DOIs are exempted from speciic state statutes decisions over many important programs and services for the students of Baird ISD can now be made at the local instead of the state level. This provides increased freedom and flexibility related to certain state mandates that govern educational programs and processes and allows te district to better meet the unique needs of our students.
The BISD DOI was adopted on February 12, 2020 and amended on April 9, 2021. The DOI committee approved a second amendment on March 9, 2022. The DOI plan with proposed revision will be made publicly available for comment for 30 days, and will be presented to the Board of Trustees at the April 25, 2022, regular Board meeting for approval. Both the current plan and the proposed revisions are available at the links below.
